The University of Sydney (Sydney) and New York University (NYU) have identified each other as strategic partners to foster deep collaborations in research and education. As part of our partnership, we are launching the inaugural University of Sydney - New York University Ignition Grants to facilitate and support joint initiatives that will strengthen both universities’ strategic priorities and develop interdisciplinary research with societal impact.

Applicants are encouraged to submit funding proposals for innovative and sustainable programs built around collaborative research linking the University of Sydney and New York University. Projects supported by Ignition Grants are expected to lead to joint publications, other research outputs, and/or proposals for external funding to support continued collaboration.

We invite proposals in the following fields:

  • Wireless Communications

Each proposal must include at least one Chief Investigator* from each university. It is strongly encouraged that PhD and/or Masters students, Postdocs, and/or Early- and Mid-Career Researchers (EMCRs) are included in project teams. Projects which are interdisciplinary in nature are also encouraged. Preference will be given to applications involving new collaborations.

Up to four proposals will be funded. Each successful proposal may receive up to AUD $18,750 from Sydney and $12,500 USD from NYU.

The University of Sydney applicants should familiarise themselves with the guidance and resources on international collaborations available on the intranet. New York University applicants should familiarise themselves with NYU international research guidance.
